Materials
Directions:
Discuss how bats sleep during the day and are active during the night. Take this opportunity to talk with your children about why it is important for everybody to rest and sleep. Ask children if they know why we need our rest and sleep.
Facts:
We all need sleep. Sleep allows the body to rest and restore itself after a busy day. Young children need more sleep because their body is growing which makes the body tired. Most young children need 10–12 hours of sleep each night. A child that is well rested is better prepared to learn, imagine, create, and socialize.
Bedtime Tips for Parents:
Set a regular bedtime and routine. Children will fall asleep more quickly if they have a routine that has them relax before bedtime. Some ideas:
- Taking a bath
- Brushing teeth
- Reading a story
- Getting hugs and snuggling up together
- Ask your child for suggestions
Extension:
Sing the song: Bats are sleeping.
